ARCHICAD Training Lesson Outline

NEW in ARCHICAD 23:

  • Vertical arch option for beams
  • Columns and beams clean up to each other better than before

Direct placement of casing profiles around doors and windows doesn't quite clean up, so a better option is to model with profiled beams on plan, convert to morph, then rotate up.

Ornamental rafter tails can be created using a complex profile for a beam that is extruded just the depth or thickness of the wood member (e.g. 1 1/2" or 35 mm); using Offset Modifiers this profile can be extended as needed to create whatever length is appropriate.

Another method for rafter tails is to use a profile as an SEO operator to subtract the desired shape.

Stem wall and footings are a natural application for complex profiles, possibly including wood framing on top of the concrete or masonry. Offset Modifiers as well as vertical and horizontal stretch zones make it possible to fit many different contexts, including stepped for sloping sites.

Complex profiles can be used for crown, baseboard and chair rail, one at a time or in a group, optionally integrated with the wall itself. Mouldings can also be placed using objects from the standard ARCHICAD library. Corner intersections are handled automatically with profiles; objects have editable hotspots to adjust end conditions on the fly.

Eave details - fascia, soffit and framing, gutters etc. can be modeled with profiles; one can also can use objects in some cases.

An "awkward" experiment was conducted at the end attempting to connect horizontal and sloping (rake) fascia and trim. It may be watched if you want to see Eric stumble...as one person put it "I like you as a teacher, but I wouldn't hire you to fix my roof."
