How do you deal with Multiple schemes in a project?Eric describes 2 options: using Layers and but his preferred method is using Renovation Filters (including the Pinning Feature).0:05:30Multiple Schemes. Renovation Filters
Using Renovation Filter - Troubleshooting - PromptsEric hovers mouse over Renovation Filter items in Palette and prompts don’t appear. He corrects this by going to Help > Show Help Tags.0:06:00
Using Renovation Filter - Troubleshooting - Editing Renovation FiltersIf Renovation Filters aren't set up as you would like, go to Renovation Filter Options and adjust what is visible on each Filter setting (e.g. Might want one to show Existing & Demolition but not New)0:08:15Editing Renovation Filters
Tip: Adjust one wall of a corner and the wall at its right angle adjusts tooSelect both walls and use Polygon tool > hover over edge to bring up Pet Palette. Offset edge > drag one wall and other wall (meeting it at 90degrees) will adjust also0:12:45
Using Renovation Filter - Troubleshooting - Inject Parameter ToolUsing 'Inject Parameter' tool does not inject the renovation status of the original wall/item0:13:53
Using Pin tool in Renovation FilterEric models additional walls in an example existing project. Open Renovation Palette (from icon/pop-up or Window > Palettes > Renovation. Select walls/doors and mark as Existing in Renovation Palette. Eric draws new walls and uses Split tool to mark certain sections of walls as Demolition etc. as appropriate. Multiple colliding schemes are drawn on the same project: to resolve, open Renovation Filter Options, Click Duplicate and re-name e.g. Floor Plan - Scheme A. Duplicate again and rename e.g. Floor Plan - Scheme B. Now select Scheme A and click OK to make Active. Select new walls you would like to be visible in Scheme A and Click Pin tool from Pallet to "Show them on Current Renovation Filter Only". Select Scheme B and"Pin" new wall to only be visible Scheme B0:14:48Renovation Filters. Pin Tool
Clean up wall intersection using Material PrioritySelect walls that are intersecting neatly and need to have their priorities adjusted. Go to Options > Building Materials. Selected walls will be shown highlighted in Green. To give a wall a higher priority simply drag it below the other wall in the list0:15:35Material Priority
Tip: Any drawn element can be added to a Renovation Filter Except for Markers0:21:45
How do different scheme options work in relation to the View Map?Eric shows an example of this. In View Map: He clicks on First Floor Plan. Sets Renovation Filter to Scheme A. Click 'New Viewpoint' (Folder with Cross). Re-name to Scheme A > Save. View should appear as new folder in View Map under Floor Plans List0:23:25View Map. Scheme options
Why is Using Renovation Filters better than creating different Layer Combinations?Layer combinations can't cope with punching a window etc. in0:26:10
Using Pin tool in Renovation Filter e.g. 20:30:04Renovation Filters
Note: If Pin tool is selected and a new element drawn > it will automatically be Pinned to Current Renovation Filter0:33:15
Once a scheme/wall combination is chosen/finalised:Select chosen walls and "Unpin" to show on all Relevant Filters.Unpin in Renovation Filter
How to use the Renovation Filter when SEO is used to model different options (SEO's cant be Pinned to a Renovation Filter). The caller was using this in a Terrain situationEric opened a sample project where he had dealt with a similar situation. He demonstrated how he modelled a hole, then a Foundation designated Demolition to fill in the hole for the existing status of the project. He then pinned this to the Existing Renovation Filter. For the Planned Renovation Status the new Foundation is modelled, designated New, and Pinned to this Filter0:35:00SEO & Renovation Filter
How did Eric get the extensive list of options on the Renovation Filters Palette drop-down list? They are the options available in the provided US Template for ArchiCAD. If you are using Eric's MasterTemplate there will be a more streamlined list of options (so not as many).0:43:25
Lost ability/setting to snap to X & Y axis when placing a wall etc. on a floor plan?User had Snap Guides turned off. Also check: Options > Work Environment > Input Constraints and Guides. Tick Horizontal and Vertical, and Parallel to Grid. And check Settings in Tracker and Co-ordinate Input (00:58:52)0:50:29Snap Guides
Problem: a little black dot is following the curser causing it to be difficult to place a point in the right location?Grid is turned on (Shortcut: Shift S)1:01:27Grid
Is Best Practice to save 2D details to a separate Library file to be re-loaded with any ArchiCAD project?Eric recommended saving 2D details in separate Office Library folder for future use, then you have a comprehensive Office Library to load for each object. As you add more to that, its easily seen in each project. Easier to keep track of this way vs Embedding into Template1:14:15
Caller is having problems exporting Layouts to DWG. Caller emailed Eric some files to demonstrate the problems.(In PlanView) Hatches are appearing below a window when exporting to DWG that aren't there (and shouldn’t be there ) in model or PDF. Eric checks settings: Interoperability > DXF - DWG > DXF - DWG Translation Setup. Eric found in Settings > Save Options, the caller was saving to AutoCAD 2000, (Caller has been asked to do this by he client) and warns that there will certainly be problems saving to such an old version of AutoCAD. Caller uses (a white) Fill in windows in ArchiCAD to cover additional line work that will be confusing to the client. These Fill areas then become black when exporting to DWG for AutoCAD. Eric is unable to offer advice in time constraints of Coachin Call and suggests looking at Pen Sets, but first seeing if this problem happens in newer versions of AutoCAD. (Called wrote in later that this IS solved in later versions of AutoCAD)1:17:20Exporting to DWG
What is difference between Saved View of plan and Clone?Eric demonstrates his use of Clone Folders in a sample project. For more information see the article written by Eric (refer link).1:34:48Clone Foldershttps://bit.ly/2T0h8t1
What is the process to bring a BIM object into a project?Caller found an Arched window by a manufacturer that he wanted to use. Eric went company website, downloaded the Revit & Sketch Up Files of the window. In ArchiCAD Eric navigated to a free plug-in (can be downloaded from BIM6X for Revit Importing. Go to File > Interoperability > Revit Export. Select window, imports and File is added to Embedded Library. Eric selects Window tool and window has been loaded automatically (it is then possible to go to Settings to make limited adjustments). Eric placed window into a wall but ArchiCAD did not understand how to do a cut-out to match the curved arch on top of window - it left a gap in the wall. Eric was unaware of how to resolve this, but suggested a work-around of creating a similar window in ArchiCAD and using that.1:41:10Impoting BIM Objects
How to create a custom WindowEric shows how to use imported Revit window as a basis to create a new customisable ArchiCAD Window. Eric copied the Elevation with Imported window in it and pasted in Plan view as 2D graphic. He then used the Wall tool & Magic Wand to create a simple thin frame using the 2D outline. Eric used Slab tool to create glass. When done in 3D view: File > Libraries and Objects > Save Selection as > Window > save to Embedded library. When inserted cut-out did not follow arch of frame; to resolve and make correct cut-out: Choose Slab tool, draw rectangle around outside of window. PET Pallet subtract > magic wand space outside of curve. move slab slightly below window. Rename in ID as Wall hole and this will be used as cut-out guide for new window. Placed in wall and cut-out was correct. Eric demonstrates you Might need to clean up 2D symbol of window so it shows cleanly in Plan view. New Window will show up in Schedule (if its not showing up, untick Merge Uniform Items - you might have several windows of the same size).2:02:00In ArchiCAD Best Practices Course navigate to Week 21>Creating and customising Library Parts > Custom Door Panels and Window Sashes
Eric opens a project by a caller online created in ArchiCAD 22 using Master Template o explore his use of ArchiCAD2:32:15
Using Cutaways to view 2D ModelEric shows how to turn on Cutaways on the fly to explore the interior of the model: in 3D view: View > Elements in 3D > 3D Cutting Planes. Right click on little scissors at the sides > Create Custom Cutting plane > Hover over a surface and click, drag cutting plane though building. Select Finalise to retain a particular view /cutting plane location. Command Y to toggle on and off2:37:20Cutaway
Saving Cutaway ViewsSet up cutaway location, angle of building and lighting (move sun if required). In View Map (Bottom RH corner) click Save View. Go to a drawing sheet > Drag newly created Cutaway View from View Map list onto drawing sheet. Image can be re-sized, cropped etc. This image is a live view so if model changes this view will be updated.2:41:15
Eric offers suggestions on cleaning up Building Materials lists when there is a lot of duplication (or similar named materials with sli)ght variatione.g. Using the Delete and replace Option2:47:00
Caller has a problem deleting a newel from one end of a railing without deleting the whole railingEric demonstrates going into Edit mode for the railing, selecting the Newel > changing post type to none (rather than deleting it).2:56:55 also 3:25:22Railings
A question regarding user who thought model was slowing down when using Complex Profiles.Eric couldn’t see any problems with the Complex profiles but after doing a polygon count, did notice the doors are using 60% of the polygons in the whole model. Demonstrated in Model View Options ways to reduce processing time including turning on Hide Object Knobs, Taps & Door Handles in 3D.3:04:10
