ARCHICAD Training Lesson Outline

Complex Profiles

(Continuing from the previous lesson)

Profiles can be set for access for different tools (wall, beam, column, railing); this simplifies the dialog boxes of these tools, since you won't see irrelevant entries such as a structural steel shape while choosing a wall profile.

The bulk of this lesson was spent examining standard Beam, Column and Railing profiles in the Graphisoft standard template. Different options were explained in context, including the origin point, edge settings (both uniform and custom), vertical and horizontal stretch zones and opening lines.

Profiles used for Railing Posts are created with a different method, since instead of being extruded in a straight line or a curved edge, they are set up as a half-section that is rotated to create a lathed form. These are commonly used for balusters as well as end Posts and Interior Posts.

Profiles may also be set up for use as Top Rails, Hand Rails and Rails; in each case, the primary option for the sub-element (e.g. Top Rail) needs to be set as a Profile, then you'll get a popup menu of Profile choices in the detailed settings.

Profiles may be used for stair treads or tread accessories as well. In this case, you will need to set the access to the Object icon so that they will be available in the Stair dialog box.
